Janella's Gonna Tri!

Hi!

Thanks for stopping by my fundraising page. I may not know you, but hope that my passion for swimming, running and biking, and the cause I am supporting will help me reach out to you.

On September 9th, I will be in Los Angeles competing in my first Olympic distance triathlon (swimming 0.93 miles, biking 25 miles, and running 6.2 miles). I will be there with hundreds of other members of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training Program. I will complete this triathlon in an effort to contribute to the goal of curing leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, Hodgkin's disease and other forms of cancer. It is estimated that these forms of cancer strike some 107,900 Americans each year and kill 60,500.

I will be participating in honor of Dillon Walsh, a 10 year-old leukemia patient (that's Dillon on the right). Dillon was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) when he was 5 years old. Dillon is lucky – ALL is the most common leukemia in patients under 21 years of age, and has the highest survival rate (85%). I will wear a hospital bracelet that bears his name as a reminder that my struggle to finish the race is nothing compared to the battles these patients and their families face daily.

That brings me to the reason for my letter – my goal is not only to finish the triathlon but also raise $2,500 for LLS. I am writing to ask that you support my efforts by giving to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on my behalf. Researchers are committed to finding a cure, and your TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation is key to achieving these goals. What ever you can contribute helps...it all adds up! (Make all checks payable to: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society)
